About Karen

Food, Fuel, Fun!

Here you will find healthy and delicious recipes that cater for families with sporty children and teens, together with the ramblings of a forty something woman who loves wine, travel and make up.

karenjolly-10This blog is designed as resource for guardians who find themselves in the position of having to feed ravenous sporty children with healthy, tasty and calorie rich food that they will actually eat. I don’t believe that it is a sin to add butter or sugar to some recipes, rather adding some of the good stuff that fuels them, and you.

I am a mother of two rugby mad teenage sons and one swimming mad eight year old girl. I divide my time between Somerset and Italy and have lived in America and Asia so influences are drawn from far and wide.

I am a trained cook and have a diploma in sports science and nutrition. I dabble with Pilates, cycling and exercise classes but am easily led astray by any passing friends with corkscrews.

Professional Bio

One Sporty Mother is a food and lifestyle blog written by Karen Jolly. The blog sprang from requests from fellow parents and friends asking for recipes and advice on feeding children with a high calorie intake due to sports and activity.

A company director, Karen lives with her long suffering husband Will and three sporty children in Somerset.

Karen learned to cook at the French Culinary Institute in New York (now International Culinary Center) and after having her second son, in a bid to drop the baby weight gained a diploma in sports science and nutrition as she trained to be a group sports instructor at the Asian Academy for Sports and Fitness Professionals in Hong Kong.

As her children have grown and their needs have changed, she has developed a range of recipes and habits that ensure fast, healthy and most importantly popular dishes land on the table at mealtimes that keep her children fed and fuelled.

When she is not working or blogging, Karen can be found complaining her way through an exercise class, travelling and exploring new tastes wherever she may be.
